天一生水，地六成之。这是《易经》里颇具气概的一句话，
晓墨觉得用来形容今天要讲的城市——宁波，再合适不过。

书藏古今
凝聚了他几百年的超凡气象
在讲这个城市之前，
晓墨想先讲一个故事：

公元1561年，中国明代中后期，
日本海盗对我国商船大肆抢掠、劫杀。
明朝廷羸弱，不敢出兵抗敌，而是下令“片板不得下海”，以图平静安逸。
让宁波——原本繁荣昌盛的商贸重镇和东海大港悄然走向败落。
无数人扼腕痛惜，却无可奈何。

这一年，明朝兵部右侍郎范钦反复向朝廷提议抗倭无效后，
毅然辞官回乡，用自己多年积攒下来的俸禄去建一座楼。

这座楼坐北朝南，占地面积2.6万平方米，
硬山顶重楼式结构，通高8.5米，斜坡屋顶，青瓦覆上，颇具气概。
宁波乡亲们都以为这位朝廷大官建楼是为了安度晚年，享受人生。
却发现一辆辆马车满载着一箱又一箱的东西搬到阁楼。

辞官，原来只是范钦另一番事业的开头。
而这番事业，才是真正的气概磅礴，千秋万载，名垂青史的不朽功绩。
运到大楼的都是书籍，
是他在位时苦心搜寻的宝贵宝藏，首次进阁，就已有七万余卷。

范钦为藏书楼起名为——天一阁。
书最怕火，他取《易经》“天一生水”的卦象，是以水制火的意思。
此后四百年间，天一阁真如名字期待的那样，
历经朝代更迭、天灾人祸，书阁俱全，屹立至今。

为了保护这些藏书，范钦可谓煞费苦心。
他制订了严格的家规：
外姓人不得登楼，各房未一致同意不得开阁门。
阁门与书橱钥匙由各房分别掌管。
烟酒后不得登楼，书不下阁梯，不准女性登楼。
而且是绝对绝对的执行。

每代子孙有继承选择权，
或万金、或书楼。
晓墨一直很好奇，是怎样的热血男儿，才会放弃万金。
去选择继续没有收入，只有付出的藏书楼。

但范家每代都有这样的子孙，
才让藏书楼和宝贵藏书保存了下来。
史实证明，选择藏书楼，并不是当好一个图书治理员那么简单。
而是必须花费毕生的精力去连续和保护中华民族的文化遗产。

天一阁看起来是私人藏书楼。
但里面的藏书是天下共享的。
书不出阁，怎么办？
资料就由继承的范家子孙帮忙誊抄。

在有需要时，天一阁也会献出藏书，
乾隆年间修《四库全书》，天一阁就献出珍本638部。
接下来中国进入多灾多难的鸦片战争时期。
天一阁继承人面临严峻挑战。
1841年，天一阁被英军掠夺，损失惨重。
到1847年，天一阁仅存书籍2223部。

太平军攻陷宁波，天一阁部分藏书又被抢掠出卖。
范家十世孙范邦绥想尽办法购回部分书籍。
到了军阀混战时期，天一阁书籍又被盗运。
幸有范家后人和爱国人士全力保护，书籍才没有尽失。

到了1937年，天一阁才面临真正的大考验——抗日战争。
这次，范家后人主动出击，寻找各方有识之士帮助。
将藏书分两批运出阁，有的运到乡间，有的运到各处图书馆，
直到抗战胜利后才将书籍运回阁中。

1951年，范家最后一位继承人将天一阁交给政府。
历经几百年沧桑，无数磨难，藏书和书阁终于安定下来。
守书人也可以功成身退了。

宁波作为港口的历史可以追溯到秦朝，
唐朝时，他已是中国远洋和近海贸易的主要港口，还是海上丝绸之路的起点。
宋代时，与广州、泉州并列为我国三大主要贸易港。
